Shai Gilgeous Alexander is having a break-out season this year. He’s the leading man of the young Oklahoma City Thunder team that defied every expectation this season. As a result, Shai is among the front-runners in the MVP race this season. The 25-year-old is averaging a solid 30.4 and 2.1 steals this season spearheading his team to the 1st seed in the West. However, there’s more than the MVP trophy waiting for him at the end of the season.

According to X post by ‘Run it Back’, “Industry sources tell me [Shai Gilgeous-Alexander] is the next star in line to receive a signature shoe deal.” In the clip, Shams Charania can be heard referring to Shai as ‘ a sneaker-free agent.’

The All-Star is currently with Converse, which is having a bit of a resurgence with its weapon shoe line, thanks in part to him. In the clip, Charania clearly says, “Industry sources tell me he is the next star in line to receive a signature shoe deal.”

Shai’s contract with Converse expires in September this year, which means other companies will also be eyeing him, and according to Charania, they have already approached him. So, it’s more than likely that the probable MVP is about to trigger a billion-dollar shoe deal. This is significant for SGA as having a signature shoe has always meant an ascension to the next level of NBA stardom. Especially with his ongoing performances, he probably deserves it.

Shai Gilgeous Alexander performs like an MVP vs the Pelicans

Gilgeous-Alexander may not have hit the 30-point mark on Tuesday, but his standout plays in crunch time propelled the Thunder to a vital road win against the New Orleans Pelicans. Facing a five-point deficit with just over two minutes remaining, Shai grabbed a crucial offensive rebound and set up Jalen Williams for a key basket, cutting the lead to three. Shortly after, he calmly sank a clutch step-back three-pointer to tie the game at 112 with 1:29 left. Luguentz Dort and Williams then sealed the win with timely baskets, but it was SGA’s earlier heroics that put OKC in position for the victory.

Overall, Gilgeous-Alexander contributed 24 points, eight assists, and five rebounds on 9-of-20 shooting. Despite only making one three-pointer, his ability to deliver in critical moments, a consistent trait this season, was once again evident. He also finished with a +14 rating in 38 minutes of action. Can Shai win the MVP this time?
