Ja Morant made a stunning comeback from his 25-game suspension. He led the struggling Grizzlies to a thrilling victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. In the process, he scored 34 points and recorded 8 assists. While Ja is on an epic comeback, his father’s statements about the issue seem completely out of line.

Tee Morant made an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio and during the conversation, Tee stated that many star players in the past have committed more severe offenses without facing suspension.

He said, “It was a lot of faces of the league that did things way worse than my son. So why is he under the guillotine again?” And these comments did not go down well with NFL legend and popular television personality, Shannon Sharpe.

Tee Morant’s recent comments irks Shannon Sharpe

Sharpe addressed Tee’s comments on his podcast, NightCap. He said, “We’re in a different time now, 2003 and 2023. There’s the thing called Me Too movement. We just saw Jonathan Majors basically lose his career over a situation. I mean Tee, what are we missing? Does he not understand that the NBA is a private business? They set the rules. They set your son’s behavior.”,

Tee Morant has been actively involved in Ja’s basketball journey, regularly attending numerous Memphis Grizzlies games. So, Tee defending his son shouldn’t come as a major surprise. And this is not his first time doing so as the senior Morant has always come to his soon’s defense. However, Ja Morant would like to forget this period as quickly as possible and focus on his craft. With him back in the fold, could the Grizzlies make it to the postseason?

Can Ja Morant lead a Grizzlies revival?

The Memphis Grizzlies have severely struggled without their franchise cornerstone, Ja Morant. They currently occupy the 13th spot in the Western Conference standings, with 7 wins and 19 defeats. Securing a playoff spot still seems highly improbable, but Morant’s comeback might have a revitalizing impact on the team. Nevertheless, they still have a lot of problems to solve.

The Grizzlies have one of the best defenses in the league. However, it’s their offense that’s the root cause of their poor form. They have recorded an offensive rating of 106.5, which is the worst in the NBA. The Grizzlies are also shooting at a clip of 33.2% from beyond the arc, which is the second worst in the league. Morant’s return might address their offense, but the Grizzlies really need to improve their 3-point shooting. Otherwise, securing a playoff spot could become tricky. However, stranger things have happened in the NBA. So, don’t rule out the Grizzlies.
