The Los Angeles Lakers have disappointed this season, experiencing a decline in form and performances following an initially promising start where they emerged victorious in the inaugural In-Season tournament. With the season reaching its halfway mark, the Lakers currently languish outside the guaranteed playoff spots in 9th place. Their recent performances have shown little to suggest that the Lakers could legitimately challenge for the NBA title.

The Lakers suffered yet another defeat in their most recent match-up against the Houston Rockets. Despite LeBron James and Anthony Davis each contributing 23 points, the Rockets secured the win with a final score of 135-119. However, the game was marred by dubious officiating calls, foul trouble, and dirty plays, with Dillon Brooks prominently involved. And a former football player, Shannon Sharpe, was not happy about it.

Shannon Sharpe takes exception to Dillon Brooks’ antics

In the latest episode of ESPN’s First Take, Sharpe called out Brooks for trying to hurt opposing players like LeBron and Jarred Vanderbilt. He said, “If they going to let you shove guys in the back, hell they can hire me. Just let me come in at 55 years of age and I can do exactly what Dillon Brooks do. Guy gets on the break away, I can shove him in the back. I can go up for a rebound, pretend like I am trying to get a rebound and club the guy outside his head. That’s unnecessary. That is not basketball.”

This isn’t the first time that Shannon Sharpe has taken exception to Brooks’ style of playing basketball. Last season, Sharpe got into a heated altercation with Brooks, and that led to security separating the two as Ja Morant and Steven Adams joined in to defend Brooks from Sharpe. The 55-year-old also got into an altercation with Ja Morant’s father, Tee Morant, during the game.

However, Sharpe apologized for his actions a day later on Undisputed. He said, “I take full responsibility for what transpired. It does not matter what Dillon Brooks said or how many times he said it. Me being the responsible person, me having the platform I have and having so many people look up to me, I was wrong.”

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies endured an abysmal run, losing eight of the nine games after the incident. Coincidence? I guess not. What are your thoughts on Sharpe’s feud with Dillon Brooks? Is Shannon Sharpe right? Let us know in the comments below!
