The feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has caught the attention of people worldwide. However, there’s another beef between NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal and NFL legend Shannon Sharpe that is starting to heat up, including a diss track from Shaq himself. It all started when The Diesel, while interviewing the Joker, stated that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander should have won the 2024 MVP award instead of Jokic. While the Joker seemed cool about it, ESPN’s Shannon Sharpe took issue with Shaq’s take.

Later, Sharpe took a slight jab at Shaquille O’Neal’s credentials as an NBA great on the NightCap podcast. He said, “I think a part of Shaq — he might not ever admit this — but Shaq sees these guys winning these MVPs and is a little envious.” He added further, “He’s the most dominant big men in the history of the game, and he got 1 MVP.” Shannon further went on to suggest that Shaq isn’t even on the Mount Rushmore of NBA greats. According to him, the likes of Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will always rank higher than him.

Shaquille O’Neal didn’t take kindly to Sharpe’s disrespect. He responded on X with a link of an article, which ranked Sharpe as the 11th-best tight end in NFL’s history. He captioned the post with, You took me sticking up for Shai as jealousy?? shows how smart you are and how you say anything to get clicks. so here’s some clickbait for you. Gotta be top ten in your profession before you speak on someone in (their) profession.”

Shaq took another cheeky swipe at Sharpe on the Essentiallysports Instagram fan page of him, adding to Sharpe’s “he got 1 MVP” remark with, “and four rings and three retired jerseys and two statues.”

Shaquille O’Neal escalates the beef to the next level

For the past week, hip-hop fans have been treated to some great drama. Kendrick Lamar’s beef with Drake has truly captivated the world, with new diss tracks coming on a daily basis. However, no one ever imagined Shaquille O’Neal to join in on the action. Shaq dropped a diss track on Friday via his official Instagram handle.

The track starts with Shaq rapping about how winning just one MVP in his entire career still bothers him to this day. Then Big Diesel delivers a scathing takedown of Sharpe, with lines like “Shannon Sharpe, man, you’re way beneath me”… “Your whole demeanor is faker than new rapper beefy”… “You’re soft — before you get fly, you rather tweet me”… and “You got ‘em calling me Rocky the way I RiRi.”

Shaquille O’Neal is no stranger to diss tracks. In fact, he has taken shots at various adversaries in the past. He dissed Kobe Bryant in 2008 after the Lakers lost to the Celtics in the 2008 NBA Finals. In 2017, Shaq released a diss track on LaVar Ball. And seven years later, it was Sharpe’s turn. However, Shaq announced that the beef has ended from his side. He wrote, “love yall, now i’m done with this. I’ll b at the bahamas crib if anyone needs me.”
