The only true ‘Super team’ of the NBA, the Boston Celtics visited Dallas tonight to take on Luka Doncic and Co. Missing out on Kristaps Porzingis due to a right knee inflammation, the Shamrock’s needed something vintage. It came as their established duo – Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, launching a two-sided attack on the hosts. The tandem combined for 73 points in the Celtics’ 119-110 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

Brown, who has been subject to major scrutiny after signing a historic extension in the off-season, had one of his best showings of the season. His imaginative style was overwhelming for a Mavericks defense that ranks 20th in the league. Off the various players who tried to guard him, Luka Doncic took a spin at it too. The Mavericks may have thought his 6’8″ frame and hefty body may help to smother Brown. Instead of slowing down, he embarrassed the Slovenian in his building.

Jaylen Brown can’t believe his crossover on Luka Doncic was on the jumbotron

The Boston Celtics had built a sizeable lead when balling in the second quarter. It was good enough that they didn’t have to panic. While on the attack, Brown got the ball at the top of the key, with Josh Green as his primary defender. Peyton Pritchard’s screen allowed the switch, getting Doncic, a weaker matchup against the quick and artistic Jaylen Brown.

Immediately, the Boston forward decoded speed to be his weapon against Doncic. He took his run into the paint and then snatched the ball right back. Doncic, already having committed to a drive, stumbled on his own feet and hit hard on the canvas. As he tried to pick his body up, Brown hit a graceful midrange jumper to complete the crossover sequence.

The Celtics bench stood in awe as Brown glared down at the returning Luka Doncic. The crossover was so nasty that the staff at the American Airlines Center showed it on the jumbotron just to relive the moment.

When quizzed about his thoughts, Brown said he was just “being aggressive” on that possession when trying to fend off Luka Doncic. Then, when asked about what he thought about the moment being displayed for the crowd to watch again, Brown was surprised.

“Here? Nah I didn’t notice that,” said Brown with his eyes showing confusion. He further added, “That’s crazy. Somebody needs to be fired if they did that,”

The crossover was just that good. When Jaylen Brown is at his best as he was tonight, he is a nightmare for defenders to face. He can shoot the ball, has springs in his legs, and can drop opponents at will with his hypnotizing dribbles. Brown finished the game with 34 points and 4 assists while shooting almost 60% from the field.
