The NBA world has recently been buzzing with debates about the greatest point guard of all time. It all started when Stephen Curry,  said that he is the best point guard ever while acknowledging Magic Johnson’s strong resume. All this happened during an appearance on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast. The debate took an even more interesting turn when Michael Jordan also weighed in. 

ESPN’s NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith claimed to have received a text message from MJ in which he expressed his opinion on who is the greatest PG of all time. As the surrounding debate is happening, Shaq has joined in and posted on his Instagram with a special message for Steph.

Jordan’s text message to Smith revealed his belief that Magic Johnson is the best point guard of all time, with Curry coming in close but not surpassing Magic. He acknowledged Curry as the best shooter of all time but emphasized that Johnson “invented the triple-double”. Moreover, Magic has five championships, which is more than Steph has got.

The conversation quickly spread across social media and ignited passionate discussions among fans about which player truly deserves recognition as the best point guard in history.

Shaquille O’Neal’s Subtle Support for Stephen Curry

While the focus was on the Curry-Johnson debate, Shaq made a subtle statement on Instagram. O’Neal posted a side-by-side comparison of his stats from the 2000 season and Curry’s statistics from the 2016 season. In the caption, he writes, “Me versus my favorite player @stephencurry30”

The comparison shows Steph Curry edges out Shaq with an average of 30.1, compared to O’Neal’s 29.7 during their peak seasons. However, when it comes to rebounding, there is a stark difference as O’Neal dominates with an average of 13.6 rebounds per game while Curry manages 5.4.

Curry’s versatility in categories such as assists and steals per game highlights his ability to rotate and defend the ball. The comparison also shows Shaq’s dominance in shot-blocking with an astonishing average of 3 blocks per game compared to Curry’s mere 0.3.

Although O’Neal didn’t explicitly take a side in the GOAT debate, his post seemed to suggest that Curry’s numbers speak for themselves.
