Draymond Green often gets into the on-court altercation but his last few are too dramatic. He recently held Minnesota Timberwolves’s star Rudy Gobert in a chokehold and got 5 games suspension as a result. Later, he punched Jusuf Nurkic in the face and was put under indefinite suspension. He didn’t get much support from the Golden State Warriors this time and Steve Kerr too stressed upon him to make a change.

Draymond Green is known for his explosive energy. It helps him win but gets him in trouble too often. Everyone seems to be critical of him this time. But after the third straight loss of the Warriors against the Los Angeles Clippers, former Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett tried to rationalize Green’s behavior.

Draymond Green got a cold shoulder from the Warriors after the NBA suspended him indefinitely. Coach Steve Kerr even said that suspension makes sense, and that Draymond needs to step aside and make a change. But Draymond got support from unexpected quarters.
The former Celtics star called him the “heart and soul” of the Warriors. He praised the energy arsenal that Draymond adds to the Warriors. Also, he compared him to Stephen Curry, who despite having revolutionized basketball doesn’t add to the team in the way Draymond does.
Garnett said, “Draymond’s energy and his passion is what is his superpower when it comes to being a member of his team. That is a part of their foundation. Steph Curry is not a rah-rah MF. You gotta have a couple of them in your team. He that.”

Further, he said that the energy Draymond has is beneficial to the team but is harmful too. He therefore suggested that Warriors need to fine-tune him. Garnett opined, “A ball of fire comes out. He gotta drive that every night. He is a high-spirited person. He not perfect. He can use some type of trimming.”

Draymond Green: A hero and a villain

Draymond has earned six suspensions in his career. Also, he has 19 ejections to his credit. Only Rasheed Wallace is ahead of him in terms of ejections. After being hit by Draymond, Jusuf Nurkic said that he needed help. Rudy Gobert, whom Draymond held in a chokehold, suggested that keeping Draymond on the court jeopardized other players.
Given the problems he brings, he has also been the backbone of the Warriors. He helped them win four championships since 2015. Kevin Garnett opined that the Warriors are afraid to talk to him given his contributions to the team. However Stephen Curry, after the loss against the Sacramento Kings, praised Draymond’s passionate nature but told him to “know where the limit is.”
