And it is done! Dennis Schroder is now a Warrior. After Klay Thompson’s Bay Area exit, the Dubs struggled for a second scoring option after Stephen Curry and Mike Dunleavy made sure they just got that. Buddy Hield went off early in the season, only to wane. Brandin Podziemski has somehow managed to play worse than he managed in his rookie year. So all that equation led to Dennis Schroder. But were the two of the Dubs’ cornerstones, Curry and Draymond Green on board with it? Mr. Dunleavy has the answer.

According to Anthony Slater, both the Warriors veterans gave thumbs up to the move along with Steve Kerr. “Those guys are not banging down my door. They never do that…Do I keep them in the loop? Yes. Were they double thumbs up on this move? Yes…It’s a good clean process. They’re on board. Steve’s on board,” The Athletic journalist wrote on X.

As per the journalist, Dunleavy stated that they are always looking for opportunities to enhance the team and maximize their championship window. The Warriors’ GM also emphasized that they’ve proven once again their ability to make impactful moves to strengthen the roster. Regarding Dennis Schroder, he said, “We still think he has a lot of good years left in him.” Reflecting on his expiring $13 million contract, Dunleavy added, “We’ll have his Bird rights, the ability to re-sign him. Hopefully there’s a relationship here longer than just a few months.” Schroder will enter free agency after the 2024-25 season and could potentially be re-signed by the Warriors depending on the circumstances. After the trade, Draymond shared some valuable insights, which offers a glimpse into the Warriors’ plans for the German guard.

Draymond Green opens up about Dennis Schroder’s trade

When asked about Schroder’s trade in Sunday’s postgame interview, Draymond stated, “I don’t think he was necessarily brought here to fit.” Not only that, but he also highlighted, “We have a defined style of play that doesn’t align perfectly with his.” However, this was not meant negatively. Instead, the 34-year-old clarified, “We must adapt to what he brings to the table.”

Draymond believes that forcing Schroder to fit into their existing system would undermine the very purpose for which the franchise brought him in. “To make him conform solely to our system would be a disservice to both him and the team.” The 4-time champion added that they need him to bring his unique strengths and skill set that would benefit the team. “We’re in need of a player who can provide skills that we might be lacking, and I believe Schroder can fulfill that role for us,” he said.

It’s good to know that all is well in San Francisco. Schroder is expected to suit up in the Blue and Yellow jersey from Tuesday, and it will be interesting to see how Kerr chooses to utilize him.
