The Golden State Warriors’ journey from underdogs to champions is a story worth savoring. The Warriors dynasty started to take shape with the rise of the sensational “Splash Brothers” – Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. And the Splash Brothers, along with Draymond Green, have been pillars of success that transformed the Warriors into a formidable force in the league. Notably, it was Splash Brother’s “wet” jumpers that played a huge role in their success. Together, they formed one of the most lethal shooting duos in NBA history, helping lead the Warriors to four NBA championships.

However, Stephen Curry recently drove a stake through the heart of his fellow Splash Brothers to team up with popular comedian Kevin Hart.

Stephen Curry snubs Klay Thompson for Kevin Hart

In a recent commercial for Chase Freedom Unlimited credit cards, Stephen Curry joined forces with one of the most entertaining celebrities, Kevin Hart. The storyline of the commercial shows Hart as a new owner of the Golden State Warriors.

In typical owner fashion, Hart busts through the door of the Chase Center, yelling instructions and making rule changes. One such rule involved the owner of the team getting five minutes of playtime.

It was then that he shocked Curry with his new jersey, which had the words “CA$H BROS” written in bold. The moniker was clearly a wordplay on the “Splash Brothers” nickname. Kevin Hart then hilariously took a dig at Klay, “Woo! I like it, I’ll break it to Klay”.

While Curry might have ditched Klay for Kevin Hart in the ad commercial, they have been inseparable in real life. But where did the two sharpshooters get their nickname from? Glad you asked!

The origin of ‘Splash Brothers’

Stephen Curry is recognized as the three-point leader of the league. But Klay Thompson is not far behind. He recently joined Curry on the sacred list of the top 10 all-time three-pointers, passing Jamal Crawford.

It all dates back to December 2012, when the Warriors were playing the Charlotte Bobcats. Curry and Thompson matched 12 combined three-pointers and a total of 47 points to lead the Warriors to a 115-100 victory. They were dominating the game before halftime itself, combining seven three-pointers. This led Warriors.com writer Brian Witt to tweet out the hashtag “#SplashBrothers” from the Warriors’ official account.

The moniker was a clever wordplay on the nickname of the decorated dynamic baseball duo “Bash Brother”: Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire. The two guards have come a long way since and have etched their name in league history as one of the most prolific backcourt duos.
