Sabrina Ionescu was unsure of how Stephen Curry would conduct himself at the opening of the Paris Olympics. But when Team USA sailed through River Seine on 26th July, she was in awe of him. “He was like a kid in a candy store,” she said in an interview with San Franciso Chronicle. In his first Olympics, Curry has morphed into a little fanboy. He danced with LeBron James, poked fun at Anthony Edwards, and collected mementos from each interaction with his fellow Olympians. Overall, it’s been special but the gold is yet to come.

But before locking into competing mode, Curry ensured to make the most out of the opening ceremony. He wanted the classic Olympic experience, being his first time at the competitions. And in doing so, he kept a long tradition going – exchanging pins. When revealing his favorites, he revealed having family roots in Jamaica.

“My (USA) skateboarding one is my favorite. I got one from Team Jamaica, which was cool since I’ve got a lot of family on my wife’s side that’s from Jamaica. Pistol shooting too,” he informed The Athletic of his favorite pins.

Apart from pins, Curry was an attraction in himself. Several athletes requested a picture, a notion he denied. It wasn’t out of arrogance. Curry just wanted to be treated like a contemporary rather than a celebrity. The Chef then followed to taking over 200 pictures with a wide range of sports athletes during the opening ceremony.

And he has a “sentimental” plan for these clicks.

“I’m sentimental like that. So once I get the prints, I might actually archive this and put it in a way where you pull out a bottle of wine six months from now, or six years from now, and just go through them and reminisce a little bit. I just want to have all those memories, to be able to relive it,” Curry said.

Stephen Curry has appeared as an Olympian and a fan

In his debut Olympics, under the bright lights of Paris, Stephen Curry has been of immense service to Team USA. He has started all games and adapted to the demands of the international game. Even though his numbers aren’t striking, his effort on the floor is hard to ignore. In four games, he is averaging 7.3 points and two assists per game.

But he has been more than just the point guard for Team USA. Curry has also branched out as a fan, showing up with Kevin Durant, Haliburton, and Booker to support USA’s Simone Biles. And he was in awe of their inhuman athleticism.

“To see that athleticism, the clutchness of Simone and Suni in that moment, knowing what they had to do and going out and doing it was absolutely incredible. They are ridiculous to watch. To see that athleticism, it’s insane,” he said of the USA gymnasts.

Biles and the USA gymnastics contingent in particular claimed gold honors at the team event while also claiming more exploits in solo competitions. Stephen Curry and Team USA will look to do the same. In a matter of hours, they will face Serbia for a chance to compete in the gold medal game.

In the past month, they have got the better of Nikola Jokic and Co. twice. Given the NBA firepower they possess, Team USA will look to do the same. They have come with a strictly streamlined objective for these games. “Whoever is in the gold medal game”, Curry said during the Paris press conference on the one contest he is looking forward to.

With those intentions defined, it’s now time to walk the talk. Can Team USA continue their dominant run and qualify for the gold medal? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
