Stephen Curry Reveals Strategy To Shrink Gap In American Industry That Makes Over $312 Billion Revenue

In an effort to address the racial disparity prevalent in the fashion industry, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is doing his part by helping up-and-coming Black designers. Before the start of the 2024 NBA season, Curry teamed up with Rakuten and Black in Fashion Council (BiFC) to amplify Black fashion designers by putting fans on emerging labels through his ‘tunnel walks.’
Here’s how it works: the BiFC handpicks deserving Black labels and designers, Curry promotes them by wearing their pieces during his pre-game tunnel walks, and Rakuten, a shopping platform known for cash backs and rewards, helps fans get their hands on those pieces. And this is how the 4x NBA Champion is using his platform to advocate for change.
This initiative traces back to 2022, when Steph won his fourth championship with the Warriors. “2022 playoffs is when I had a cohesive kind of strategy around how I was going to show up to every game and work with the stylists and my team, and we had looks from all Black designers and Black-owned brands that I got to rock for that entire playoff run,” Curry told People.

For this year’s ‘tunnel’ looks, the 36-year-old will sport designs from Advisry by Keith Herron, Head of State by Taofeek Zabijako, Savant Studios by Michael Graham, Des Pierrot by Deslyn Pierrot and Pierre Blanc by Paul Richards. On opening night, Curry made a style statement by donning an ensemble from Pierre Blanc, featuring a tweed shirt and flared trousers paired with Bottega Veneta’s Haddock boots. Meanwhile, he matched a moto-style black jacket with black pants, a white t-shirt, and black boots by Savant Studios for his tunnel walk before the Warriors defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 137-116 on Wednesday.

From revolutionizing the sport with his three-point shooting to passionately advocating for important social issues, Curry has always been a catalyst for change. And he aims to continue doing so after retirement.
Stephen Curry might consider a career in politics post-retirement
Just earlier this month, Stephen Curry took the internet by storm when he hinted at a political career after his days on the hardwood are over. While he was on CBS Mornings to promote his second children’s book, I Am Extraordinary, he told CBS correspondent Jericka Duncan that he would consider venturing into politics, more specifically running for president, if it helped him bring about the “meaning change” he envisions.

“I have an interest in leveraging every part of my influence for good in the way that I can, so if that’s the way to do it, then—I’m not going to say the presidency—but if politics is the way that you can create meaningful change … [I’m not ruling it out.]” said the Warriors leader. However, this transition is not going to happen anytime soon, or in 2028. Would you like to see Chef Curry make a run for the Oval Office? Let us know in the comments!
