The Dubs took home a much-needed win against the Brooklyn Nets. Stephen Curry and Jonathan Kuminga put up 57 points masterclass together for a 109-98 win. Meanwhile, Klay Thompson‘s slump continued as he dropped only 9 points in his 30 minute stay. Moreover, Steve Kerr took the bold call to sub-out the Splash Brother at the end of the game.

With only 7 minutes left in the game and carrying a 4 point lead, Moses Moddy came in for Thompson. In response to the snub, Curry said, ” The way this game works, there is ebbs and flows. There is a down phase in the season… You have to stay locked in, stay ready. I haven’t talked to him specifically about it… It’s about staying positive and staying ready… just stay in, everything just comes back around.”

With 5 minutes on the clock, the Dubs had Steph, Kuminga, Draymond Green, Brandin Podziemski and Gui Santos, defending a six-point lead. HC Kerr’s judgement on the mix was to the point, and the Dubs strangled the Nets’ offense and produced the win.

Similarly, in the last game against the Atlanta Hawks, the Dubs had a similar situation defending a small lead at the end. Kerr took the call to play China Klay during the crunch time. But, the 33-year-old didn’t make any impact. He could drop only 2 points in his 3 FGA. On the defensive also, Thompson wasn’t able to make a notable difference.

Eventually, the Hawks counter attack led the game into overtime. And before even the Dubs think of scoring a bucket, the Hawks took a 10-point lead. It left the Dubs nothing but a second overtime heartbreak.

The Hawks game could have played a major role in Kerr’s decision to bench Klay. Let’s find what Klay had to say when he was benched in a similar situation.

Thompson expressed his frustration after Kerr benched him

During the disappointing 119-116 loss against the Phoenix Suns this season, Kerr took a similar call to bench Klay. In response to that he said, “Of course it frustrates me… Whatever. I deserved to be benched tonight. I played like crap,” reported Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Now that Thompson hasn’t showed significant improvement in this season, Kerr might even take Thompson out of the starting line-up. Notably, he didn’t hesitate before benching Andrew Wiggins after his disappointing run this season.

The Dubs take on the short-handed Sixers in the next game and Kerr might surprise the fans with the starting lineup.
