“I know I have a lot more to accomplish on the court,”. That’s the sort of hunger Stephen Curry has, even at 37. But he’s also staring at reality. The day of his retirement is nearing, and the four-time champion has spent time thinking about what he would do with all the idle time. There’s still the urge to stay close to basketball.

On several occasions, Curry has detailed his willingness to own an NBA team. While in New York to speak about his new book ‘Shot Ready’, he reiterated that desire. That’s a splurge born from wanting to stay close to basketball. But more than that, he is looking forward to being as available in his children’s life, and give back to the family who sacrificed for him.
“I’m not sure what the exact playbook is, but to your point of acknowledging the sacrifice that your family goes through on a yearly basis to allow me to be able to be my best self and uh achieve and accomplish my dreams of, you know, being the best basketball player I can be for the longest and then all the amazing opportunities that I have off the court like um I’m excited about digging in like you said to to being a dad,” he said during the interview.

Even with 17 years under his belt, he’s still the heartbeat of the Warriors championship hopes. And he carries that mantle with pride. “Being able to extend your prime, going into your 17 and having this belief that I can be in the top of my game again and win at the highest level,” he recently stated in a TODAY interview.

That’s been a trend prevalent in the major stars. LeBron James will be 41 next season, and Kevin Durant has just joined a promising Houston team as their scoring phenom. Curry is on that same trajectory, along with some of his Warriors teammates. The core, with Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, is still very much capable of delivering.
And Curry isn’t looking for age to be an excuse. His benchmark remains high, with the same desire for winning. So, although retirement is near, it isn’t close enough for the Baby Face Assassin to ponder just yet. He has a lot more greatness to achieve still.
