The Golden State Warriors have had a trying season, and Draymond Green’s frequent ejections aren’t helping. Heading into a crucial matchup against the Orlando Magic, the Warriors were hanging onto a slim lead over the 11th-seeded Houston Rockets. This game was a make-or-break moment for their hopes of holding onto the last spot in the play-in tournament. Despite knowing that, Green got into a war of words with game official Ray Acosta and got himself ejected from the game in less than four minutes. Following Green’s fourth ejection of the season, Stephen Curry appeared visibly peeved, trying to fight back tears. With Curry’s patience seemingly wearing thin, the question looming over the Warriors now is whether they’re ready to part ways with a core piece of their team.

In a recent episode of Fox Sports Radio, hosts Chris Broussard and Rob Parker agreed that it was time for the Warriors to move on and embrace change. According to Broussard, the way the Warriors are playing right now, they are likely going to get booted in the play-in tournament—the first round of the playoffs at best. And if that were to happen, Parker asserts that it might be time for the front office to look for a new destination for Green.

With his latest on-court antics and the hefty four-year, $100 million contract he inked with the team before the 2023–24 season, finding a team that is willing to sign him would be difficult. But it is not entirely impossible, provided the Warriors are willing to entice them with a younger player. As Rob Parker puts it, “Like you got to sweeten the pot in order to move Draymond. So you’re gonna get Draymond plus three cubes of sugar in order to make this thing happen.”

Is it the end of an era or the dawn of a new one?

If the Mike Dunleavy-led front office decided to bid farewell to their defensive anchor this July, it would mark the end of an era. The trio of Green, Curry, and Klay Thompson has been the driving force behind the Golden State Warriors’ four championships in eight seasons. Their dominance is further underscored by their record for the most NBA finals wins in the last 50 seasons. They also rank third, just trailing the Spurs’ Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili (126), and the Lakers’ Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and Michael Cooper (110) in overall postseason wins (104). But, as they say, all good things must come to an end.

However, the Warriors could be on the cusp of ushering in a new era as early as the 2024–25 season. Apart from Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins’ slump and Green’s theatrics, this season also saw the emergence of young talents like Trayce Jackson-Davis, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and Brandin Podziemski, who held the fort down when the veterans were struggling or serving suspensions.
