After Team USA failed to bring any silverware back to the country during their recent FIBA run, LeBron James stepped up to lead the country to reclaim the lost glory. The 3-time Olympian has not just shown interest in committing to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics but is also recruiting multiple stars to join him. He has reportedly spoken to Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum, and Draymond Green to accompany him. With several of these players in the last leg of their careers, this could very well be classified as their “last dance” before they decide to hang their boots.
However, it is not just the players who will have their “last dance” this year, an esteemed coach has also decided to join the list. The 9-time NBA champion has chosen to hand over the reins after coaching the 2024 Olympics team.

Steve Kerr announces his ‘last dance’
Michael Jordan’s former teammate Steve Kerr coached Team USA last summer to prepare them for the 2023 FIBA run. Although they could not achieve a podium finish, they managed to secure a berth in Paris by finishing as one of the top two teams from the Americas. However, Steve Kerr told The Athletic’s Joe Vardon that he would follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, Gregg Popovich, and step down after coaching a World Cup and Olympics team.
He said, “To me, it’s a two-year; it’s a cycle. Pop coached a World Cup and the Olympics, now it’s my turn to pass the baton. I think that’s kind of how it should be. Frankly, it’s a huge commitment too. I guess I think it was different the last go-around with Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski) and Jerry (Colangelo), when they were really establishing this culture and this system where guys had to commit for a couple years. Made sense for Coach K to stay on. But I think where we are now, one cycle and you move on.”
The 2024 Paris Olympics isn’t viewed as a “last dance” for just Team USA players.
Steve Kerr tells @joevardon he will not coach USA Basketball beyond this coming summer, following in the footsteps of Gregg Popovich.
