Prior to his recent Summer League debut, teenage sensation Victor Wembanyama got involved in an altercation with pop singer Britney Spears in Las Vegas. The incident made the headlines across the world, with many accusing the Frenchman of?stirring up the controversy, despite getting caught unawares.

However, not everyone is eager to point their fingers at the 2023 NBA Draft’s first overall pick. Recently, an NBA veteran has extended his support to Victor Wembanyama, while confidently sounding off the youngster’s innocence during the unfortunate exchange with Spears.

Victor Wembanyama gets staunch support from an NBA veteran

Thousands of fans and pundits alike have been speaking at length about Victor Wembanyama before he entered the league as the first pick. Ever since his entry, the Frenchman himself is busy making headlines. While Wembanyama’s performance in Summer League games became food for thought for many former stars, veteran Gilbert Arenas chose to address the former’s altercation with Britney Spears.

On the recent episode of?Gil’s Arena podcast, Arenas and co-hosts devoted some time to addressing the Wembanyama-Spears debacle, among other things. “He [Wembanyama] didn’t do nothing,” said Arenas, speaking of the recent controversy.

Soon after, one of the co-hosts appreciated Arenas for his opinion, which evoked a further reaction from the 41-year-old. “He [Wembanyama] wasn’t there. He was there, but he just didn’t know what happened. Stop using that man’s name for clickbait,” he added.

With the police not filing any charges, it seems safe to assume that the Frenchman is clean, which Spears herself mentioned in one of her recent statements.

Britney Spears’ statement on the incident

Shortly after the unfortunate incident with the Wembanyama, pop star Spears stated that she tapped on the San Antonio Spurs recruit’s shoulder to interact with him to show her fandom. Besides, she condemned the response she got from Wemby’s entourage.

While she continues to blame the security guard’s act, Spears has admitted to Wembanyama’s innocence.
