In a recent Instagram story, Milwaukee Bucks’ point guard Damian Lillard shared a warm and wholesome interaction with a fan. A fan who in fact was rocking a Portland Trail Blazers’ jersey. This marked the first time Dame stepped into his previous team’s stadium ever since his trade to the Bucks in October 2023.

Lillard can be seen hugging the Blazers’ fan in the heartening video. However, there’s more to the story than meets the eye. Damian captioned the story with “She has a story thats not mine to tell. But (strength/flex emoji).” Cryptic much? Yes, it is but something’s are left better unearthed especially if they’re as heartwarming as this one.

On January 31st, Dame returned to his former home court, only to be welcomed in an uproar of the fans followed by a minute long standing ovation. Despite the game ending with the Bucks losing to the Blazers with a close score of 119-116, the highlight remained the warm reception Lillard received from his fans and the team.

To welcome Dame back, the Trail Blazers went the whole nine yards as they showcased a tribute video for him at the time of the opening timeout. The love between Blazer Nation and Dame seems unmatched.

Championship with the Bucks, retire with the Blazers

A fan in the crowd held a sign that said, “get your ring then come back home,” truly capturing the emotions floating in the air.

That emotion isn’t too far from what Dame has been running with himself. In the post game interview, he bared his soul stating, “Right now, I’m just in a space of like, this is where I am now. I’m in Milwaukee. I wanted the opportunity to contend, and our team has an opportunity to contend for this year and years to come, and I’m just living in that. But I definitely, when I was traded, I see a day where I’ll be in a Trail Blazer uniform again before I’m done.”

Home is where the heart is. Damian had himself requested for the trade and has been performing phenomenally well for the Milwaukee Bucks. However, the strong emotional pull that Portland  has on him is visible too. Which team will Dame hang up his jersey in? We’ll find out!
