The Phoenix Suns recently faced off against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The latter being listed as the top seed on the Western Conference points table, was looking to maintain their momentum while the Suns, currently in the 7 place, were looking to establish a streak that would give them a last-minute push to make it to the playoffs.

The Suns had managed to establish a comeback during the second quarter by scoring 21 more points than their rivals. That effort, however, was soon quashed as Oklahoma took back their lead and ended up finishing the game with a score of 118-110. Much of the Thunder’s success came as a result of putting up a strong defense against Kevin Durant, limiting him to only 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Once the game drew to a close, Phoenix Suns coach Frank Vogel participated in a press conference to address his team’s recent loss. While he admitted that his team had to be better in dealing with turnovers, he also expressed his disappointment over the fact that Oklahoma “fouled the sh*t out of Kevin Durant all night.”

“Whether he has the ball and he’s in the script, three or four, maybe five times, every time he’s trying to get open he’s being held” Vogel highlighted. Unimpressed by the alleged embarrassment, the coach reportedly made a direct request to the NBA league and an indirect one to commissioner Adam Silver to “look at it”.

By finishing with just 20 points and a 6-15 shooting output, Durant ended up recording his lowest score of the last six games. It also marks the third time since the start of February that the player scored 20 or less points. While Durant’s performance was not at all commendable, it helped him to add a new feat to his already impressive list of achievements as he moved ahead of Joe Johnson (1,978) on the all-time three-pointers list.

Leading up to the game at the Footprint Center in Arizona, the Thunder’s found themselves to be an advantage since the Suns shooting guard Devin Booker had been ruled out due to an injury. While this allowed them to focus all of their defensive skills on Durant, it also allowed point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to put up an impressive campaign on the offensive front.

By the time the halftime had been established, Alexander’s team was leading by a score of 42-18, with the player having contributed 18 of those points himself. The 25-year-old continued attacking even after the Suns took the lead in the third quarter. By the time it was all over, Alexander’s 35 points had placed his team on the top. Combine that with the double-digit additions made by Jalen Williams (22), Chet Holmgren (14), Luguentz Dort (13) and Josh Giddey (10), the team put up a total that not even the Suns could touch.
