The 2019-20 season Rookie of the Year, Ja Morant shook the NBA and fans by getting himself suspended from the season’s first 25 games for being seen with firearms. As a result, although Ja can still travel with the team and show up for shooting drills, he will have to take the exit before any of the games start. After the suspension has fully played out, Ja will be back on the court playing for the Grizzlies in New Orleans on December 19th.

Apart from not seeing Ja for the first 25 games, fans are in for another disappointment. The Ja 1s, Ja Morant’s debut signature shoe in collaboration with Nike debuted in December of last year. And we recently caught a glimpse of him wearing the unique version during his practice sessions. Upon seeing this, fans were going gaga over them. However, Ja clarified something special about these mystery shoes.

Ja had shown up with giraffe-themed Ja 1 shoes during the Grizzlies’ shooting drills. However, much to the dismay of fans, these won’t be available in stores as they are strictly Ja’s custom shoes and won’t be making the rounds in the market for sale. Replying to a fan who had asked about the availability of the giraffe-themed shoes on X, Ja wrote “Not these, s/o jaraffe he designed them.”

His giraffe-themed shoes Ja 1s were inspired by Ja Raffe, a baby giraffe that was born in 2020 and given the name ‘Ja Raffe’ as an homage to him. It was also the same year he was named the ROY. Ja first met the giraffe just ten days after it was born at the Memphis Zoo. Since then, he has had a close connection with Ja Raffe. As fans are waiting for his comeback, Ja will only be seen during team drills.

Ja had his first run-in with the law following an Instagram live video that showed him with a gun in a Denver nightclub. This led to him being suspended for eight games in March. As a responsible man, he held himself accountable and checked himself into a Florida counseling center a few days later.

However, just two months later, Ja was again captured on camera, posing with a gun in a vehicle. At this point, the Grizzlies suspended the point guard and he won’t be seen playing until the 19th of December. For each game he misses, the 2X All-Star will be losing $300,000, which when added up comes to a staggering $7.5 million.
