However, in the current global basketball tournament, FIBA World Cup, things went a south after a horrible injury. Following the injury, a player lost his kidney on his road to recovery.

In the ongoing world cup, 32 teams across the globe have stepped on the hardwood to clinch the world cup trophy. However, the story about the team, Serbia, has been a disaster since the start of the tournament. Before losing a player to this horrific injury, the team lost other players to a minor injury.

Days after horrific injury in the FIBA World Cup, a Serbian player loses kidney

The team Serbia took on South Sudan in their third game of the first round. Even they lost players to injuries, the team continued to maintain a clean record in the tournament so far. Similarly, in the game against South Sudan also, the team produced a comfortable 83-115 victory. However, with less than two minutes left in the game, Serbia’s Borisa Simanic sustained a severe blow in the kidney region. The 25-year-old star was immediately rushed to the hospital and underwent a surgery overnight.

Moreover, the team updated that Simanic is stable and his kidney had been preserved, reported Basketballnews.com. However, four days later, the team management reported that the player lost one of his kidneys due to complications.

Importantly, the South Sudan player who unfortunately injured Simanic during the game said, “I sincerely apologize to everyone that’s watching and to the player especially.”
