Rattling reality is hitting fans hard as Bronny James‘ college career hasn’t got off to the best of starts. Analysts and media houses have predicted the 19-year-old falling lower and lower in the mock drafts, and it has caused fans to remind critics that LeBron James’ eldest son is still recovering from a cardiac arrest. While doctors have given young Bronny the green light to pursue his dreams, the fact remains that the cardiac arrest was bound to slow his development down.

Bronny, unlike his father, decided to attend college before possibly declaring for the NBA draft and is currently enrolled at USC. In late July 2023, he collapsed during a practice session and was immediately escorted to the hospital. Now, nearly 6 months on from the harrowing incident, new details have emerged in the form of the 911 call that was originally placed from USC’s training facility.

Eric Mobley, the assistant head coach of the USC Trojans who handled the situation during the unfortunate day said, “Coach (Enfield) blew the whistle to get back on the baseline. I was standing up, and Bronny was right behind me, probably about two feet away. And I just heard this thump on the ground. Boom, I turned around, I’m lookin’ around, and I looked down, and he was on the ground.”

He further added, “I called (USC trainer Jon Yonamine), and JY was already on the floor before I even start calling him. And the whole staff, and how we all reacted and got everybody out the gym – it’s almost like, textbook.”

A 911 call went out to the Los Angeles Fire Department at 9:26 a.m., according to a recording obtained by TMZ. 

Caller: Listen. Listen. Listen to me. We need an ambulance here now.

Operator: Okay, let’s get next to him, please. Okay. How old is he? Get next to him with the phone, okay. Get next to him.

Caller: Next to him?

Operator: Get next to him, please. With the phone. Okay, I need to find out, is there a doctor on scene with him, or a registered nurse?

Caller: No. There’s no doctor, no nurse.

Operator: Okay, help is already on the way.

Due to the quick thinking and prompt action from coaches and the Los Angeles Fire Department, Bronny was escorted to Cedars Sinai, where he was treated. In August, it was revealed that he had a congenital heart defect, and that was the cause of his sudden collapse.

Bronny has since recovered brilliantly and is currently a playing member of the USC Trojans. As father LeBron James put it, “He’s won at life, everything else at this point is extra credit”.
