At 58 years old, his coaching career with the Warriors turns 10 this year. Nearly every coach, no matter the team, has gone through the sweating-out phase of the possibility of losing the job. Even Kerr didn?t deny the possibility of that happening after he joined the Warriors with a 5-year contract.?

Steve Kerr was worried he would get fired

In a recent interview with NBC Sports Bay Area, Kerr revealed how he felt when he took over the Warriors and inherited a young roster led by Stephen Curry. He was worried that he might mess up the team and get fired. ?There was part of me that was thinking, ‘All right, I?ll go five years and go back to San Diego and surf and play golf and that would be it?, Kerr said.?

Before he made one of the most successful coach-player duos with Steph in NBA history, he was hoping to make it just those initial five years. He added, ?And hopefully, I?ll make it five years. Maybe they?ll fire me before that. Who knows??

Kerr carved out his legacy with Steph?

His time with the Warriors has been nothing short of legendary. He didn?t anticipate the Warriors? meteoric rise and becoming a fixture for the team. Although he was oddly unconfident in his early days. ?There was a little bit of imposter syndrome going on,? Kerr recalled, acknowledging that it was chaotic indeed. Before becoming a head coach, he served as the general manager of the Phoenix Suns (2007-10). That?s when he realized he had a better aptitude as a coach and started developing and designing his offense.?

With a 473-238 record, Kerr has the highest winning percentage (665%) of any active coach with more than one season. Curry blossomed into a two-time MVP and a four-time champion under his guidance. Kerr’s coaching career and championship success put him in the company of Hall of Famer legends like Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, and Gregg Popovich.?
