Stephen Curry Revealed his reason for missing his first Olympics

The no.7 pick for the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry debuted in the league in the year 2009. However, Curry was still new to the league at that time, as he only averaged 17.5 points in his rookie season. And the 2012 Team USA was stacked up with stars like Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and James Harden.

Also, recently, after the win  against Serbia, Stephen Curry revealed why he was also unwilling to join the team as he confessed to the Athletic, “I didn’t want to on the first team since 2004 that didn’t make it to the gold game and get a gold medal my one opportunity here.” Apparently, the 2004 national basketball team could only bag the bronze medal despite being the favorites for the gold, as they struggled with outside shooting during their campaign.

Stephen Curry regrets missing the Rio Olympics

During the Rio Olympics in 2016, Stephen Curry genuinely had a wish to join the Team USA roster. The post-season injuries that the Warriors star suffered cost him the NBA Finals along with the Olympic ambitions. He sprained his right knee MCL, which took him the whole summer to recover, and he missed his chance to represent his nation.

Regretting his decision later in July 2016, he confessed to Mercury News during a Facebook Live News conference, “When I got hurt in the playoffs and knew that the recovery time over the course of summer was going to be important for me to get ready for next year. I tried to give Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski), (USA Basketball director Jerry Colangelo) and the whole USA staff more time to figure out what they need to figure out for the roster.”

Stephen Curry was determined to represent Team USA in Paris!

After already missing out on two Olympics, the third Olympics in Tokyo that Stephen Curry missed was due to the COVID pandemic. He chose his family over the game. However, a year later, as soon as he won a Championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2022, he admitted his wish to play under Steve Kerr at the Olympics to his peers.

While celebrating the NBA Finals victory a day after, Curry set a goal, stating, “I still got something to do. I gotta go play for coach Kerr in ’24. I gotta get something y’all got, I ain’t got. …I gotta get an Olympic medal.” After holding the 4x NBA champion title along with other NBA accolades, the only thing Curry was missing out on was a gold medal. Notably, his teammate Draymond Green had already got that privilege in Tokyo. But Curry was still hoping for it.

At last we got here today, and the Golden Boy might soon get his only and most important achievement of his basketball career.
