Victor Wembanyama was much talked about after the recent ?Wemby Drill? issue. Hitting the headlines for his 8-foot wide wing and guarding skills, the 7?4 Frenchman is indeed one of a kind. Although he performed well in the preseason, his debut in the regular season hasn’t been great so far. The San Antonio Spurs have lost two of the three matches yet, and there seems to be yet another loss in line.

Taking the spot of the second tallest in the league, he is up against the Phoenix Suns tonight. However, his height doesn’t seem to be of any advantage against Kevin Durant and Co.

Kevin Durant is following the trend of Kyrie-Luca

If you are an ardent fan of the San Antonio Spurs, then this incident will still be fresh in your mind. The debut game of Victor Wembanyama against the Dallas Mavericks, Luca Doncic, and Kyrie Irving made it the worst one. With that in mind, tonight?s match seemed to be a replica of that incident. Bradley Booker-less Phoenix is indeed putting up their best game. At least in the two-man play of Kevin Durant and Collins, Durant just showed Wemby what the Phoenix Suns are capable of.

It seemed like the ?Slim Reaper? didn?t care about the height and frame of the rookie, but was just focused on the ball. Well, this criticism comes naturally, with Spurs incapable of scoring even a single point for the first three minutes. While Kevin Durant was showing off and teasing “The Alien” with his ball-handling skills, Wemby couldn’t do anything other than just stare.

Not only that, the Spurs have already registered two turnovers just two minutes into the second quarter. With 15 minutes on the hardwood, Wemby is still standing at a tally of 6 points. Spurs trailing behind (45-63), it might be another loss for the franchise.

Victor Wembanyama and the hype all around

While the Spurs are known for establishing an international scouting infrastructure earlier than most teams, Victor Wemby might be a terrible draft pick. Although with the rookie draft, Tim Duncan-esque debates ensued, there is nothing more common than just a player position. So be it a power forward or a center, the rookie needs to buckle up to lead the team to the conference finals.

With the Suns leading the third quarter as well, 73-53, it seems like Wemby will fall short on his shot-blocking skills tonight.
