Former MVP Russell Westbrook reminded the NBA world of his balling prowess. Following the successful outing against the Denver Nuggets, Westbrook dropped the hammer on Nikola Jokić, reacting to his triple-double. The Joker had a usual day at the office, dropping 17-10-36, but on a losing cause. However, the star center’s effort received an unusual response from the Beastbrook.

Following the game, a reporter caught hold of Russ and asked if Jokic’s triple-doubles were similar to his. The question definitely didn’t impress the star, as he said, “Ain’t nobody like me. Nobody like me. We’re gonna stop that right there. Nobody like me. Nikola is a hell of a player, but he’s not me, I’m not him.” Further adding, “Obviously, he’s won MVP twice. He’s a tough guard, an excellent passer, knows how to play the right way, and competes every single night. Tonight, we got the best of him”.

The reporter’s question probably didn’t land well with Russell Westbrook. Rightly so, as he currently holds the record for most triple-doubles in NBA history, recording 198 times so far. Along with it, he also holds the record for most triple-doubles in a season, with 42 times in the 2016-17 season. Notably, he won his regular season MVP award in the same season.

However, Nikola Jokic isn’t far away from taking the record away. The Siberian star has currently recorded 129 triple-doubles in his career. And with 26.5 points, 12.4 rebounds, and nine assists per game, he is a fan favorite, expected to win his third MVP. Whereas for Westbrook, he averages 11.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in all the Clippers’ 64 regular-season games he’s played. The only difference is, Jokic has been climbing the ladder fast. While it took 1158 games for Brook to record 198 TDs, Jokic has recorded 129 TDs in 670 games. The 29-year-old star still has several seasons left in him, so there are high chances for Jokic to beat the record.

Earlier this season, the Joker also unlocked a new feat by dropping a triple-double on every team except for the Nuggets. Speaking of the achievement, the towering center seemed to care less about it. He said, I think it’s a nice special when I finish career, it’s going to be like a legacy or something so it’s a like a milestone.”

Will Russell Westbrook be able to save his record?

The 35-year-old star is currently playing in his 16th season. Comparing Jokic, Brook has only a very few seasons left in him to defend his record. On top of it, the LA Clippers have brought in a new role for the former MVP this season.

The coach Tyronn Lue revealed that Brook sacrificed for the new Clippers’ union and decided to come off the bench this season. The reduced game time will further make it difficult for the star to record more triple-doubles. Earlier, Westbrook played an average of 33 minutes per game. However, this season, the new role restricted his playtime to 22 minutes per game. Thus, making it difficult to save his record.

Nevertheless, Brook has something more important to offer to his side. He has been acting as the missing piece for the Clippers throughout the season. Ever since he started playing from the bench, the team had a magical run, competing for the top seed in the West. Suddenly, it came to a halt when he missed 12 games in a row with a fractured arm. While it looked like the Clippers have lost their zeal, Brook’s comeback, made them believe again, as they won 4 out of 6 games.
