His father, John Haliburton, helped him run drills to elevate his game. Since the age of six, Tyrese Haliburton has been in the game, separating himself from the usual pack of kids, and now, he holds a massive record. Something even veterans like Stephen Curry and LeBron James haven’t done.

The Knicks played the Pacers in this year’s Eastern Conference finals, and in the 1st quarter of the game itself, Tyrese Haliburton put up a record. According to NBA writer Tomer Azarly on X, “Tyrese Haliburton in the 1st quarter of Game 4 vs. the Knicks (recorded) 15 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 0 turnovers.” And guess what? These records made him create a history in the basketball world.

As per Azarly, “He’s the 1st player in NBA Playoff History to record 15+ points, 5+ rebounds, 6+ assists, and 0 turnovers in a quarter. (per Stathead, since 1997).” More than Stephen Curry and LeBron James! Amazing, isn’t it?

Right from tipoff, Tyrese Haliburton, who is often referred to as “overrated” by his critics, lit up the court on Tuesday. That kind of start was unprecedented in playoff quarter history. Not even by LeBron James, who’s the only other guy to ever hit the 15-5-5 mark in a single playoff quarter since 1998. And while Tyrese was making history, his dad, John Haliburton, was finally back in the building.

Not courtside, but up in a suite, after being suspended for running onto the floor in Milwaukee. However, they didn’t have any pre-game hugs or handshakes. But his son, Tyrese Haliburton, put on a show that spoke louder than words. By the end of the first, the Pacers were up 43-35. And by halftime, they were ahead of the Knicks, 69-64, just like they are 2-1 in the series.

But if you are thinking that this is only the point where Tyrese Haliburton is ahead of LeBron James or Stephen Curry, think again!

Tyrese Haliburton is one up on LeBron James and Stephen Curry?

Last time, before the 2024-25 NBA season tipped off, HoopsHype dropped a top-100 player ranking that turned a few heads especially in L.A. Tyrese Haliburton, the Indiana Pacers’ rising star, landed at No. 12. That’s one spot ahead of LeBron James, who came in at No. 13. Yeah, you read that right. Even Steph Curry ranked behind him at No. 14.

Now, nobody’s saying Haliburton’s legacy touches James’s, or to some, even Curry’s. That’s not even close. But if we’re talking about where things stood heading into that season? Haliburton earned it. He led the entire league in assists in 2023, averaging nearly 11 per game, and still dropped over 20 points a night.

He was efficient too-nearly 48% from the field and solid from deep. And it wasn’t just stats. He carried the Pacers all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals, their first trip there in a decade. Meanwhile, the Lakers didn’t get nearly as far. So yeah, based on where things were headed, it made sense. That’s why Haliburton was ranked ahead of these two players. Also, it’s quite possible that when the new list comes in this year, Tyrese Haliburton makes it in the top 10. Until then, the man is helping his team clinch the victory, as in this game, the Pacers won, 130-121.
