Philadelphia 76ers stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey rub shoulders to create iconic basketball moments for the fans. However, they take time to dish out entertaining and humorous moments for their fans too. After Tyrese scored an impressive 50 points against Indiana Pacers to register a 137-126 win, Joel called him ‘The Franchise’ again.

Someone who enjoys a deep personal and professional relationship with Embiid went on to call him a “troll”. He also threw light on how he earned the name by the NBA great.

In a podcast recently, Maxey narrated how he got ‘The Franchise’ nickname as he went on to narrate a “funny story”. He recollected that he jokingly messed with Embiid and asked “the boss of the game” to post his picture to his 7 million social media followers. “Trynna get my name out there too,” Maxey recalled. He narrated that Joel called his media team and asked them to post the picture that he tagged ‘The Franchise.’ “Joel is a troll,” Maxey remarked hilariously.

He shared how, after Embiid gave him the nickname, it became viral. He revealed that people kept yelling at him ‘Franchise’ wherever he went. Maxey shared that even if he likes the nickname, it is a “hard name”.

“You know your nickname? The Franchise,” Embiid said in the locker room to Maxey. “Remember that? I gave you that nickname. Trademark it.”

The 76ers sensation has got for himself quite a few nicknames. However, the ones bestowing him such names share a deep admiration for the rising Sixers star.

Robert Covington has spoken highly about the passion and abilities of Maxey. In an interview, he described himself as a “Maxey fan for years”. He too has a special name for Maxey and calls him ‘Fourth-quarter Maxey.’

Similarly, Embiid has tried to echo ‘The Franchise’ for Maxey on various occasions, even in the locker room. But the NBA icon has a special assessment of Maxey as a player. “He just wants to get better,” Embiid said about Maxey. “He wants to learn. He’s willing to learn; he listens. Extremely humble. I think he can get to another level.”
