The Boston Celtics recently faced off against the Phoenix Suns for the 2 time this season. Jayson Tatum was reportedly seen engaging in a 1 v 1 struggle against Suns star player Kevin Durant and managed to keep his team on an equal scoring against his rival. Jaylen Brown took over for Tatum soon enough and delivered one of his best performances this season by scoring an astonishing 37 points, accompanied by 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Thanks to his effort, the Celtics managed to defeat their rivals, 127-112.

During the post-game press conference, Jaylen Brown reflected on his recent win, drawing parallels between this and his abysmal performance last season during a pivotal game. The player recalled that he could have easily chosen to not work on himself after his loss last season, but he did.

“People can go one of two ways” said Brown during the press conference. “When things don’t go their way or if they lose or make a mistake or get embarrassed, it can be a spirit breaker. But ain’t nothing in this world gonna break my spirit”. Through his statement, the player sent an indirect warning to his rivals that he has learned from his mistakes during the last playoffs and that those misgivings will not be repeated.

Jaylen Brown admitted coming up “short” during Game 7 of the 2023 Eastern Finals

The game that reportedly convinced Jaylen Brown to improve his style of playing took place back in May 2023, as the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics had qualified to face off against each other during the Eastern Conference Finals. Entering the postseason for the 9 time in a row, the Celtics had managed to produce a 3-3 tie during the first 6 games of the finals.

During Game 7, Heat star players Jimmy Butler and Caleb Martin put up a combined 54 points to get an edge over their rivals. The Celtics attempted their best to catch up, with Jaylen Brown recording a career high eight turnovers and contributing 19 points to the overall score. However, the player developed a couple of missed chances as well, making just 8 of his 23 shots from the floor and only 1 of his 9 three pointers. In the end, the Celtics lost the game and their championship hopes by 19 points.
