The Los Angeles Clippers marched to the Wells Fargo Center and narrowly escaped defeat on Wednesday. The final score sheet read 107-108, so the Sixers team, without Joel Embiid, almost carried its weight all the way through. Heading into the clash, James Harden’s return to Philly was the major narrative. However, the 76ers front office was keeping a close eye on Paul George unbeknownst to the crowd.

According to a recent report by the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers have been on a ‘star hunt’ since the summer of 2018. The franchise sought out players like LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and PG. Now, it apparently turns out that the 76ers will acquire George is the “worst-kept secret” in the league.

The 34-year-old’s contract with the Clippers ends this summer, his extension depends on their performance post-season. In case the Clippers choose not to do so, PG is a free agent. The Sixers can openly show their interest in the 6’9 forward. For Philly fans the prospect of having a 9-time All-Star complement their existing duo of Tyrese Maxey and Embiid truly looks promising.

Having PG might also mean that Philly will be able to fight through the Wall that is the Boston Celtics and claim the upper hand. While all of this is still conjecture, the proposition sure seems interesting.

Can Paul George Play alongside Embiid?

If George decides to join the City of Brotherly Love, he would be an excellent addition. The Sixers would boast an All-Star trio with Maxey as guard, George as wing, and Embiid as center for starters. By replacing Tobias Harris with George, whose skill level is exceptional, the team would receive a substantial upgrade.
This isn’t to diminish Harris, who has nearly made the All-Star team twice in his 13 seasons.

However, George, now in his 14th season, boasts an impressive resume with nine All-Star selections, six All-NBA nods, and four All-Defensive team appearances. At 6-foot-8 and 220 pounds, George remains one of the premier wings in the league. Despite turning 34 on May 2, he’s maintained solid numbers this season with averages of 22.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game through 66 games, shooting 40.6% from beyond the arc. Sure sounds interesting, but will this even be a real scenario? Or is this simply levarge for PG to show the Clippers?
