The Boston Celtics were looking to survive yet another late-game test, this time against the Utah Jazz. Jaylen Brown tried his best to keep Boston in the game, but Utah’s youth ultimately surprised the Celtics, leaving them with disbelief as they lost the game 105-103 on a crucial hook shot from Jazz center Jusuf Nurkic. However, all eyes were drawn to the play preceding it, one whose potential no-call perhaps decided the outcome of tonight’s matchup.

In the final seconds of the contest, Jazz guard Keyonte George slipped while attempting to guard Brown, causing him to crash to the floor and lose possession of the ball. However, no whistle was heard. The referees opted not to call a foul on the possession, and after gaining control of the ball, Utah used the fastbreak to take the lead.

Afterward, with the game tied, Jazz forward Svi Mykhailiuk launched a shot, which Nurkic rebounded and hooked in, leading to the win.

After the game, Brown was annoyed with the no-call, telling reporters the silence was “unacceptable” and “b——-,” adding, “You can’t have a mistake like that as an official at that point in the game… How’d none of you see it? You can’t trip somebody in the fourth quarter and then it just be a no-call.”

Brown, who scored 36 points, carried Boston in the late stretches of the game, scoring 8 points in the final three minutes to come back from a 12-point deficit.

However, he ended up being called for an offensive foul in the final possession of the matchup, which iced the game for the young Jazz squad, who were missing their leading rebounder, Walker Kessler. Brown had to be held back by teammates and coaches from trying to argue with the referees.

Despite missing their young center, the Jazz managed to out-board the Celtics 55-36, and contained them to one of their worst shooting nights in recent memory, at just 21.5% (11-51). Apart from the controversial no-call, Keyonte George led all scorers for the game with 31 points on an efficient 9-16 from the field and 11-13 from the charity stripe.

For now, all Boston fans can do is wait for the NBA’s Last Two Minute Report, which will review the call and make a final decision on the call.

Unfortunately, closure is all the Celtics can hope to receive, as they now fall to a 3-5 record.

NBA Fans Sound Off After Jaylen Brown Trip No-Call

Social media erupted after the buzzer sounded, with clips of Jaylen Brown’s trip from Keyonte George flooding timelines, and outrage soon followed.

One fan accused the officials of missing one of the most obvious fouls this season. “Jaylen brown has every right to knockout all 3 refs they didn’t call a trip it’s clear and evident,” the user wrote, tagging the league and even the FBI in frustration. “This is ridiculous now… costing people money too.”

Another user echoed the belief, claiming that the NBA should void the outcome. “Sorry last basket doesn’t count, literal trip to Jaylen Brown @NBA,” one post read. “What do y’all do @OfficialNBARefs? You costed the Celtics the game and look the other way… hope they don’t make it out the Garden.”

The tone was both angry and exhausted, and clearly that of a fan who has seen no-calls go unpunished too often.

One user posted Jaylen Brown’s comments on the situation, writing: “Jaylen Brown said it was unacceptable that the refs missed it when he got tripped. “That’s some b——-.” Said that cost the Celtics the game.”

Brown’s raw honesty has captured the frustration of Celtics fans and validated what millions of observers had just seen.

Many neutral observers spoke out as well, with one writing that the matchup “has been WILD,” adding, “Not sure how it wasn’t a foul when Keyonte George fell down in front of Jaylen Brown and Brown tripped over him. That was a major missed call.”

It wasn’t just Celtics fans, or about Boston losing. It spoke the the perceived state of NBA officiating, where crucial moments keep slipping out of the officials’ view, including one in the season opener.

While Utah celebrated the win, fans have continued to replay the key sequence. “The no call on Jaylen Brown tripping over George is insane @NBA,” another viral post read. “That’s not even debatable.”

For most fans, it was a clear verdict. That one play changed the game, and the way the NBA handles these moments needs to be improved.
