Klay Thompson gets wizardly wisdom before opening a new chapter in his life! As the son of LA Lakers legend Mychal Thompson, Klay was near the hoops all his life. At the same time, the 34-year-old attracted a lot of criticism both from fans and former players. Nevertheless, the ace shooter has had his father as a sage beside him to tackle the noise. And, the 69-year-old has come up with some important advice ahead of the star’s Dallas Mavericks journey.

Sharing the backcourt alongside one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, China Klay had a tough time breathing amidst the constant chatter. Especially in the last season, the star went through a range of emotions. Initially, he lost his place on the starting lineup followed by a 0-point outing in a do-or-die game. That was it. Media and fans forgot the star’s contribution to the Golden State Warriors for all these years and trashed him. And no one knew it would be the last time when the NBA world could witness him in the Dubs threads.

During a segment, Sonya asked whether Thompson Sr. had any suggestions to tackle constant criticism. The Lakers legend directed his son to ignore the comments coming off the court, and instead pay attention to the opinions passed on the court. Thompson Sr. continued, “That’s who you listen to. That’s what you pay attention to, what they’re saying about you. Because those who are competing against, as long as you get their respect, that’s all it matters.”

Klay Thompson is already a follower

Of course, why not? Klay Thompson would have listened to his father’s advice a long time back. The former Dubs star almost repeated his father in an interview last year. During a post-game interview, an interviewer asked the star about his critics. Thompson, who had scored 20 points and 9 rebounds, said, “I don’t care what people say. It’s like they don’t do what we do. They can’t do what we do. That’s why they talk. Why would I? Like, come on. I don’t care what people say at this point in my life, ha! Next question.”

However, Stephen A. Smith wasn’t pleased with Klay’s statement. In response, he took to his show ‘First Take’ and said, Maybe you should start caring… You shouldn’t be uttering stuff like that out of your mouth when you playing like hot trash.” But Thompson ignored the take.

On the other hand, Thompson once had criticism from former NBA player Charles Barkley. An opinion within the court. Two years ago, the NBA legend criticized Thompson saying he wasn’t the player he used to be two years ago. While the star didn’t respond to it, Splash brother Stephen Curry gave a fitting reply. He said, “The comments are part of our success right here. We’re always gonna be in the spotlight, and people care about how you’re playing and care to comment positively or negatively. Because they know that will move the needle.”
