Victor Wembanyama could possibly be another NBA legend in the making. The 7’4″ prodigy was the first overall pick of the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft. At just 19 years old, the Frenchman is already making big impressions in the preseason games. Victor had already won over fans ever since his 1v1 match with Rudy Gobert as well as his dominance in the U-19 FIBA World Cup.

Kendrick joins ESPN’s Randy Scott to share his thoughts on the young player. He is confident that Victor is on his way to becoming the best player in the league both offensively and defensively within the next three years.
However, as far as this season is concerned, Kendrick admits that Victor “could possibly make the All-Star team. That’s how good he is.”

A rookie player making it to the All-Star team is not unheard of, but at the same time, it is also quite rare. So, for Victor to pull this off in his debut season would cement his name into the league’s history.

In fact, Kendrick takes it a step further and adds, “Offensively, he reminds me of a 7’4″ version of Kevin Durant. There’s nothing that he can’t do.”

There is nothing Victor can’t do, indeed. He pulls up with the mid-range jumpers, smooth ball handling, finishing around the basket – and as if this isn’t enough, Victor doesn’t hold back with his defensive plays as well.

“I wouldn’t be shocked if he make(s) an All-Defensive team this year,” Kendrick says.

The numbers don’t lie
In the Spurs’ preseason victory game against the Houston Rockets, Victor dropped 15 points and got 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocks across a 21-minute stint. In another earlier game with the Miami Heat, Victor had a strong performance with 23 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks across 23 minutes. Numbers don’t lie, and it looks like Victor is just starting off.
As Kendrick puts it, Victor knows exactly what he wants to do in the court and there is nothing that can stop this man, as he dominates on both ends of the court. It is clear that this is just a teaser of Victor’s skills and talent and there is definitely more to come. To think that this is just the beginning of a new era is an exciting prospect.
