No team needs to move some pieces around more than the injury-ridden Warriors. The uncertainty looms most around Chris Paul’s future. If he’s returning to the court following a fracture in his hand, playing in Dub Nation, or heading elsewhere is as suspenseful as a noir film. Enter Steve Kerr to fuel the tension.
The head coach was on 95.7 The Game where he discussed the return of CP3 along with Gary Payton II to the team around the trade deadline. “We’re not going to find better players than [Chris Paul & Gary Payton II] in a trade. It’s exceedingly rare to make a deal where you can upgrade your talent to that level.”

This comes when rumors are rife that the Warriors have made two All-Stars available for trade. One of them is reportedly Chris Paul. There are differing opinions that Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton, and Klay Thompson are possible trade pieces too before the February 8 deadline.

Kerr gave a feel of the temp within the Golden State Warriors’ trade deliberations. However, he downplayed the certainty by adding that trade deadline deals are “almost always unlikely.” While he isn’t wrong, he’s not giving Dub Nation any confidence regarding Paul.

Chris Paul fractured his hand during the Warriors game against the Detroit Pistons in early January. They won that game 113-109 but have been struggling in the last eight games. The 12x All-Star has played 32 games this season so far but is expected to miss a few more.
He’s reportedly gone through another round of medical evaluation and is doing light on-court activity. Kerr and the Warriors haven’t ruled out his return this season. Meanwhile, the Warriors are not looking in playoff shape at all after losing six of their last eight games.

Shams Charania said on the Run It Back podcast that the Warriors are hoping to construct a new core team around Curry with Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski. Every other veteran’s names is on the table for possible trades. There’s, however, a lack of ruthless conviction to lock in a final roster. Something that was displayed when Kerr hinted that trading Paul&Co. is “unlikely.”
