The Warriors are whole again with the return of Stephen Curry after missing three straight games. And boy, did he make his presence felt with a milestone career moment for the first time in 17 seasons. But Curry’s return after a three-game absence was soured. The Dubs were up against the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road, playing in front of a packed 18,203 Paycom Center crowd. The reigning champions beat them 126-102, improving to an 11-1 record. The Warriors, on the other hand, go down 6-6 at the ninth spot in the West.

Warriors vs Thunder: Game summary and key moments

The Warriors beat the shorthanded Pacers without Stephen Curry on Sunday night, and it filled Dub Nation with premature confidence about tonight. The Warriors were missing Al Horford tonight, with Curry making his much-anticipated return in light of his missed game streak against the reigning champs in Paycom Center.

OKC was missing Lu Dort in the lineup with an upper trap strain. It fell on his teammates to fill in the defensive gaps, and they delivered.

Of the 40 rebounds OKC got, 30 were defensive. They also forced multiple turnovers in the first half that made Steve Kerr very stressed on the sidelines. Although overall, the Warriors had only one turnover more than OKC.

The Warriors also drew more fouls, but one made history. Stephen Curry earned the first flagrant foul I of his entire career when he stepped into the landing zone of OKC guard Isaiah Joe while he attempted a last-second three. Besides that unwanted milestone, Curry was held to only 11 points at his return.

It’s Draymond Green who is currently receiving the most criticism. With only 3 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and no blocks, he’s not making a great argument for his ‘defense wins championships’ campaign while OKC was down its primary defender.

While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored the game-high 28 points, it was Chet Holmgren who was the star of the night. He made franchise history as the first OKC player to record 20+ points, 10+ rebounds and a 100% FG. Holmgren’s 23 points and 11 rebounds look tame till you notice he was 9-for-9 from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line.

OKC still appears to be the toughest team to beat as they face the Lakers tomorrow. The Warriors face the Spurs at the same time, and Green, as well as Jimmy Butler, are side-eyeing the youngsters to show more commitment for that.
