Sporting superstars often shy away from opening up about their mental journey. But, Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan isn’t one of them. The 34-year-old star suffered from depression in 2018 and opened up to the world about his anxiety and loneliness. Since then, he has been an advocate for mental health and recently dropped an interview alongside Draymond Green, a year before the Dubs star sought professional help to come out of suspension.
The Golden State Warriors‘ power forward landed in deep trouble this season, facing two suspensions over his ugly physical altercations on the court. In fact, the second suspension almost cost him his career. After he threw a punch at Phoenix Suns‘ Jusuf Nurkic, the league laid an indefinite suspension on the star and directed him to seek professional help.
After missing 16 games in a row, Green returned to the court and the 4x Champ seemed to have reverted to his prime playing years in the last few games. Amid this situation, DeMar DeRozan released his old interaction with the Dubs star discussing his mental journey under the show, Dinners With DeMar. In the first episode alongside Green, he spoke extensively about his feelings during the low phase.

During the conversation, DeRozan credited Green for pushing him to speak out, eventually leading him to seek professional help. The Bulls star said, “You talk to me about you know expressing it and being the one to vocalize it don’t hold it in…you got into my a** about sh*t. You the only person.”
He further went on to talk about losing his dad and about having a son in the same year. As DeRozan continued to speak his mind, Green interrupted him and asked, “I have a question. Help me get to therapy as someone who’s done it. Help me get there.”

Ever since Green returned to the court, he has been putting in the work for the team. Importantly, the team saw a rare spike in their performance and got into an 8-2 record.
In the process, DrayMagic had to face to Suns again. The star had back-and-forth stare-downs and verbal altercations with Nurkic in the game. In the meantime, Green also put on some great performances, and the Dubs won the game with a game-winning three-pointer from Stephen Curry.
