LeBron James delivered yet again in a high-pressure situation. With the 8th seed on the line, James delivered one of his best performances of the 2023-24 season against the New Orleans Pelicans. At 39 years old, LeBron James continues to record stat lines, which many NBA players in their prime can’t. Spontaneously, many fans took to social media to congratulate LeBron and his remarkable achievement. While most fans praised James’ insane longevity and desire to play the game, one fan commented, “We done with the 90s.” For those of you who don’t know this trend, it undermines the achievement of every player who played in the 1990s or before.

This trend started on TikTok and has now gained traction among the younger fans of the NBA. Several content creators on TikTok have basically made compilations of the 80s and 90s stars, such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, implying that they wouldn’t fare well in the modern NBA. Further fuel was poured on this raging debate after LeBron James’ remarkable performance against the New Orleans Pelicans. Numerous fans argued that Michael Jordan, at 39 years old, wouldn’t be capable of achieving what LeBron is accomplishing on the court.
