The Golden State Warriors have not been having the best time right now. By losing over 31 of their 65 games, they have been reduced to the 10 seed on the Western Conference Points table. Add the fact that their star player Stephen Curry had been ruled out of a few games after sustaining an ankle injury. The pressure to do well seems to be getting to the players, as evident from a recent incident during their faceoff against the Dallas Mavericks.

During the fourth quarter, as the Mavericks were leading by 14 points, Warriors player Chris Paul ended up requesting a foul call after getting hit while chasing down a loose ball. As the referee Matt Myers was assessing the call, Paul ended up making an alleged childish taunt by making the sign for the technical foul right in the referee’s face.

While Myers might have missed noticing the action, the same was seen by various NBA fans too.

Another commentor chose to remind the rest of the viewers about the long assumed alleged feud that the Warriors player seems to have harboured against NBA referees. He proceeded to write “CP3 has never liked the refs (emoji) I don’t blame him”. Following in the same footsteps, an additional viewer stated “Always Been One Of Chris Pauls Achilles Heel. He Don’t Know When To Stop Hounding The Refs Then Gets T’d Up”. Others chose to highlight their personal dislike of the player, with one writing “Never liked CP3 great player but he’s annoying asf.”

While many chose to criticize Chris Paul over his behaviour, there were some who came to the player’s defence. Prior to the foul sign being made to the referee, viewers might have caught a glimpse of Mavericks forward P.J. Washington Jr. also signalling for a technical foul to be awarded to the veteran Warriors guard. It is hard to determine whether this was sarcastic or not, but one viewer expressed his opinion that it definitely played a role in what happened next. He wrote “I don’t (think) the CP3’s point was to tell the ref ‘I’ma going to give you a tech’. The way I interpret it, Washington walked in front of them begging for a tech, so CP mocked him by pleading to the ref to give Washington a tech.”
