The Dallas Mavericks are having one hell of a season this year. The team is in the third spot in the Western Conference with a 15-9 record. In this last matchup, the Mavs could not close out the game and lost with a final score of 101-119. But that wasn’t the main point of concern for Doncic. The four-time All-Star was called for a technical foul due to excessive clapping. Yes, you read that right. Luka Doncic got a tech for clapping and aggressively walking toward the official.

The officials in the NBA have been quite trigger-happy with handing out technical fouls to players. And that is something that has prevailed since last year, even affecting the fans who came to see their favorite star player play.

Yet, the league has not cracked down on the officials being so overtly casual with handing out technical fouls. After the game, when he was asked about the incident, Doncic said, “That I can’t clap. I’m serious, that’s crazy man.”

There have been some wild reasons as to why Doncic had been called for technical fouls in the past. He was once called for a technical foul trying to rile up his own teammate in a game. And now this is the reason why he got called for a tech once again.
Doncic has been called for a technical foul in his last three games, all for similarly trivial reasons. In the Mavs’ blowout win over the Utah Jazz, Kris Dunn attempted to elicit a reaction from Doncic. The Slovenian simply smiled at him, walked away, and was slapped with a technical foul. Mics close to the court caught his words when someone asked him what he did wrong. Viewers heard him saying “He’s just mad I’m busting his a**“.
Are the officials targeting Doncic and the Mavs?
The Dallas Mavericks star has been called for numerous technical fouls in the last few games of the season. Doncic has finished the last three seasons with 15 technical fouls. But so far, Doncic is already nearing that number.
Even Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was asked about Doncic’s technical foul. During the post-game interview, Kidd was naked if he was concerned about the foul called on Doncic and he did not seem bothered by it.

However, a player would tend to feel differently about it. Let’s see if the league rescinds the foul, called on Luka for ‘excessively clapping.’
