Amid an explosive exhibition, the Grizzlies may have a colossal mess. After the NBA Cup Finals mini-break, the Golden State Warriors visited Memphis armed with their new roster inclusion, Dennis Schroder. Unfortunately, things didn’t go anywhere near the Bay Area side’s expectations, as the home team dominated Steve Kerr and Co. with a shooting exhibition. At the end of the first half, they headed to the locker room with a 31-point lead! However, in the 3rd quarter, the Grizz had a disappointing sight involving Ja Morant.

Stepping into the second half, the Memphis side had a simple task which was to kill the minutes and tighten the defense. But the players on the court had other ideas as they continued to level up their assault, extending the lead! Minutes into the third quarter, Ja Morant charged from the wing for a layup, but unfortunately, the hoopster collided with Kevon Looney near the paint. He took an ugly fall on his back and remained on the floor in immense pain.

The Grizzlies immediately took a timeout to inspect their star player. Ja Morant was sent to the locker room and Scotty Pippen Jr. punched in for the guard. The latest update revealed that the star is questionable to return, citing back soreness. Moreover, it’s important to note that the team had also listed Ja Morant as Questionable ahead of tonight’s game, citing low back soreness. So, it’s an even more tragic sight to witness the star injuring his lower back, again.

On the other hand, the Memphis team didn’t really need Ja Morant for the rest of the game anyway, as they went on to decimate the Warriors with a 51-point victory! The visitors didn’t have any answers, especially Stephen Curry. The Splash Bro recorded his first-ever career game with 0 field goals made after playing for more than 12 minutes. Nevertheless, let’s find out more about Ja’s injury.

Ja Morant and his injury-riddled season

Almost 30 games into the season, Ja Morant has sustained different types of injuries. The hoopster had a season to forget before stepping into this edition. In the last season, he had a delayed debut after serving his 25-game suspension. After just playing 9 games, Ja suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. It ultimately impacted the team’s run, as they finished in the 13th seed.

This season, Ja Morant has already missed 11 games dealing with injuries to his hip, ankle, and right thigh. Now, he has one more added. While he managed to play tonight’s game despite being listed as questionable with lower back soreness, the hard fall might have aggravated it.

Importantly, though, the Memphis staff didn’t entirely rule him out for the remainder of the game but instead listed him as questionable to return. This somewhat clarifies that the injury isn’t that serious. Moreover, no team would send its star player on the floor when the team is cruising through a 50-point lead either. Next up, the Grizzlies take on the Hawks on Saturday. Will Morant play against them? Only time will tell.
