LeBron James has seen three different decades in the NBA by now. Before the 2023-24 season, he has participated in 1421 Regular Season games thus far. Apart from that, if we add 284 postseason games, he has lodged 1705 games in the main course thus far. To compare, Robert Parish logged 1795 games in a 21-season career. Therefore, LBJ is most likely to take him over in a couple of years. Considering his never-ending prime, he will remain a significant contributor.

Then what about the preseason games? When was the last time LBJ participated in a preseason affair?

The last couple of preseasons have been rather underwhelming for the Lakers, having lost 90% of their games. LBJ last played in a preseason game during the last season. It was in mid-October and the Lakers lost by 47 points to a sprouting Kings team. In that game, King James lodged 10 points and five rebounds, playing for just 18 minutes. That is part and parcel of a preseason affair where teams are looking to find the end pieces to their rotation. The starters or the star players are just getting a warm-up and are pulled out early.

Considering that he will be 39 in December, James will look to preserve his energy for the 2023-24 Regular Season and a potential Playoff run. Interestingly, the poor form of the preseason carried deep into the Regular Season during the last two seasons. Despite Preseason games not appearing much in value, they are a great way to evaluate glaring weaknesses.

Therefore, while they may not be the barometer of long-term success, winning early can do wonders for a squad. With a lot at stake for the Lakers, like every season, they will aim for a big start. Considering that their core has now generated some winning experience, they can be in for a hot start.

Interestingly, they will play the Warriors twice. Apart from that, they are also going to take on the Nets, and the Bucks, and will round off their preseason journey against the Phoenix Suns on 19th October. For the Regular Season, they have a tough draw to begin things. They will start against the reigning champions Denver Nuggets on October 24th. They were swept in four games during the Conference Finals. Then they are going to meet the Phoenix Suns on October 26th, in a potential James-Durant match-up. Let us see how the team starts early.
