Can Wembanyama Break a 64-year-old Record?

The San Antonio Spurs have garnered a reputation for being one of the most successful and well-run organizations in the NBA. But following Kawhi Leonard’s departure, they haven’t competed for NBA’s top honors. In fact, it has been four seasons since the Spurs qualified for the playoffs. However, after years of mediocrity, the Spurs fans look to the future with optimism and the reason is Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs have a generational talent on their hands and his development will be the key to their future success.

The Spurs face the Dallas Mavericks later tonight at the Frost Bank Arena. The game will be an intriguing watch for basketball fans, as Victor will go head-to-head with Luka Doncic on his NBA debut. Given, Dallas’ poor defense and Wemby’s unique blend of size and skill, many fans are curious about Victor potentially breaking a 64-year-old record. The record in question is the most points scored on an NBA debut by a rookie. Wilt Chamberlain holds the record currently when he scored 58 points for the Sixers on his debut against the Knicks. The closest any current NBA player has come to Wilt’s record is Trae Young. He scored 49 points against the Bulls on his debut in 2018.
