Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant emerged as one of the most controversial stars in the NBA. The league held the All-Star accountable for his explicit and violent behavior off the court and slapped a 25-game suspension ahead of the season. The media and fans took their turns to criticize the 23-year-old following the decision. Moreover, things got out of hand and the critics involved Ja’s friends and family in the debate. Especially, his mom, Jamie Morant, was blamed for her son’s explicit behavior.

Who is Ja Morant’s mom?

Unlike Ja Morant‘s father, Tee Morant, the NBA world hasn’t seen much of his mother. The star’s father can often spotted on the courtside, cheering for the Grizzlies. Interestingly, both his parents have been basketball players in their youth, but Jamie has more similarities to her son, as she had been a point guard in her college, reported Memphis Flyer.

Notably,  comedian Corey Holcomb took a shot at Mrs. Morant for calling her son to a shoe store over an argument, reported Marca. Holcomb said, “Recently at a mall where Ja Morant’s mother got into a fight with a shoe store clerk. She called out to her son, Ja Morant, and said, ‘Woo, woo, woo… With the heat that’s coming down on him, it doesn’t make any sense. Unless there is resentment on the part of Morant’s mother and jealousy on the part of his parents over their son’s success”.

Following that, the narrative snowballed into a debate where fans engaged in making memes and blaming her for encouraging violence in her son. However, Ja Morant earlier revealed his mom’s part in keeping him in check, reported The Score. Once when Morant posted “Broke the code” hitting back at Jordan Poole on X handle, Jamie intervened and made her son delete it.

Amid the noise surrounding his suspension, the 23-year-old kept his calm and went through the days with patience. The All-Star counted his days to get back on the court by sharing cryptic posts on his social media.
