Kayci Lacob’s Career

Unlike many children of high-profile business moguls, Kayci hasn’t leaned on the Lacob family’s fortune or influence to open doors; instead, she has chosen to build her career as a writer, producer, and director from scratch.

Her breakout film from this year, Everything to Me, is a coming-of-age story set in Silicon Valley during the early 2000s, something she personally witnessed, and the movie is semi-biographical in nature.

During interviews, Kayci has also spoken on the deeply personal nature of the movie and its characters, especially in relation to Joe Lacob. “I was terrified to show my dad the movie,” she admitted about the Warriors owner.

The father character isn’t exactly painted in the most flattering light. But he got it. He told me, ‘This is your story to tell. We weren’t perfect, and that’s okay.’

She also spoke on the regret of not being able to show the movie to her mother, saying, “My mom never saw the movie. In fact, she never saw us go into production. She passed away in June of 2023 right as things were getting going with pre-production of the movie, but I like to think that she would be proud of how she was portrayed.”

Kayci Lacob’s Relationship With Lacob Family

Despite her strong desire for independence, Kayci has maintained a close bond with her family. The memory of her late mother remains deeply cherished and continues to shape her work, as she describes the process of writing and filmmaking as a way to navigate her grief and rediscover her voice. Joe Lacob has remained supportive of his daughter, no matter how introspective her art may become.

Her brothers, Kirk and Kent, have both spent their time in the Warriors’ front office. Kirk currently serves as the executive vice president of basketball operations, and Kent has previous experience as the vice president of basketball development. Although Kayci doesn’t have a direct role with the team, she has celebrated the team’s success on her Instagram posts in the past.

In a family renowned for basketball legacies and franchise-building, Kayci Lacob embodies the quiet quest for personal truth through her art. Her evolution as a director, writer, and producer illustrates that even within a household constantly in the spotlight, there is space for smaller, more intimate narratives. Everything to Me reflects the vision of a young artist determined to carve her own legacy, one frame at a time.
