Nikki Sapp, a familiar name for NBA fans. They may recognize her as the now ex-wife of long-time Miami Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra. Spoelstra has been around the Heat for so long, climbing up the ladder and resuming the HC’s position in 2008. Since then, he has had two Championships under his belt and is regarded as one of the top coaches in the league.

It was during this time that he met his wife-to-be Nikki Sapp. She was a cheerleader for the Heat since 2005 and got acquainted with Spoelstra around this time. After dating for a while, the two announced their engagement in 2015 and very soon got married in July of the next year. However, just after seven years of marriage, they have recently announced their divorce. Let’s take a look at who Nikki Sapp is.

Dancer, art director, and teacher

Nikki is half-Puerto Rican and was born on 22nd March 1987. While she was cheerleading for the Heat, Nikki also enrolled at the Florida International University, from which she earned a bachelor’s degree in art history in 2010. She then took up the Director post at the Guy Hepner Contemporary Art Gallery in California.

In addition to managing art galleries, she also worked as a Language Arts and dance teacher at the Sports Leadership and Management Charter School in Little Havana Miami for five years. Nikki also served as the Creative Art Director of the Art Angels gallery in LA. Currently, Nikki hosts a successful podcast named The Know with Nikki Spo which she started in 2021.

An amicable divorce

Spoelstra and Nikki have recently announced their divorce in a joint statement which assures that they are fully committed to co-parenting their children. In the same statement, they thank fans and well-wishers for their support as well as respecting their privacy.

The two will be co-parenting their three children- Santiago, 5, Dante, 3, and Ruby, 1 going forward. Although the reasons for the divorce are not clear, it looks like they have jointly come to this decision on good terms.
