The NBA in-arena entertainment is supposed to be fun. It’s the kind of thing you see and say “Oh, that’s cool” and then forget about soon after. However, things took an ugly turn on Monday at the Spectrum Center as the Charlotte Hornets faced off against the 76ers. That’s when the holiday spirit quickly turned into Grinch vibes.

In a supposed skit a 13-year-old kid named Jack came down onto the court during the second quarter of the Hornets game. The young fan then read a letter to Hornets mascot Hugo, who was dressed as Santa. Furthermore, the letter young Jack wrote contained his Christmas wish which was a PS5. Just a few moments later his wish came true as Santa handed him a bag that contained the PS5!

However, once the cameras were shut off, the young fan’s gift was taken away from him as reported by an X user. “In this video my best friend& his nephew get called onto court for a special segment where they gift the kid a PS5 publicly… w/cameras off they TOOK IT AWAY and gave him a jersey.” He claimed. Although the kid was also given a jersey, what is it in comparison to a PS5?

It appears that was some sort of skit of which the kid and even some cheerleaders were unaware and ended on a bad note. However, The post quickly gained traction as a result of which the Hornets management came forward with an apology in which they stated, “We will be providing the fan with the PS5 that he should have taken home last night along with a VIP experience to a future game.” it probably shouldn’t have gotten this far but kudos for the Hornets for making the amends.

Throwback back to when the Timberwolves mascot Crunch pulled off a similar stunt

Well, if you were feeling bad for young Jack, just wait for this one! Back in 2016, in a game between the Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwolves just two days prior to Christmas, one lucky kid was chosen to come onto the court and receive a prize. As it happened to be the young fan was a Kings supporter! Something Timberwolves mascot Crunch was, to say the least not happy about.

Crunch who was dressed as Santa came forward to give a brand new PS4 to the Kings fan who stood beside the host at the center of the court. He said, “Here you go, son.” Pretty generous from the Wolves mascot correct? Well, something seemed to be up as soon Crunch couldn’t stop laughing.

The wolf then whispered something in the Host’s ear who then said it out loud to the audience. He said, “Would never give a Kings fan a Playstation“. He then ripped the PS4 out of the kid’s hands and made a run with it, leaving the poor child standing there probably giving the kid enough trauma for a lifetime.

However, later on, Timberwolves tweeted a picture of Crunch the wolf and the kid. In the picture the mascot did in fact give the young fan his Play Station and the tweet was captioned, “Come on guys… Crunch isn’t REALLY a Grinch!” Thanks to this the members of the audience were not left traumatized for the rest of their lives.
