The gradual yet rapid evolution of the NBA has made it drastically different from what it used to be even a decade ago. That’s why players from previous generations often fail to relate to the current style of basketball. Klay Thompson shared one such example relating to his father Mychal Thompson disagreeing with the gameplay of today’s NBA.

Mychal, a legend of the Los Angeles Lakers, won the NBA championship, playing a style that became non-existent. So, the anger and frustration are justified, as the changes do not seem to stop just here.

What exactly did Mychal say to Klay Thompson?

The Golden State Warriors guard shared on Podcast P with Paul George that watching Joel Embiid shoot fadeaways and threes annoyed his father. Mychal grew up in an era where big men like the Philadelphia 76ers star used to go to the block, a rare occasion in today’s NBA.

“Dad, it’s hard to do what Kareem did or Hakeem did, like, it’s different,” Klay told him in an attempt to calm him down.

All the teams have adjusted their strategies to stop the opposition players from shooting long threes. This is why modern-day centers have changed their gameplay too. These continuous changes have taken away the previous version of the game, something that Mychal probably misses.

Another huge point of discussion in the podcast was the NBA introducing the four-point line. This matter reportedly divided the opinions of NBA fans and legends, according to Basketball Network.

“He might actually like it,” Klay stated while talking about his father now being a bit more open to witness changes.

The new version of basketball

Which era or version is better remains subjective to this day. Klay has won four NBA championships playing in this era and contributed majorly to the rise of the new style.
