The LA Lakers are soon expected to part ways with their beloved HC, Darvin Ham. The scenario could pan out by the end of the week if sources are to be believed. And of course, the next step to this massive change would be to find a brand new coach. The best possible candidate who might join the team would be JJ Redick, LeBron James’ partner on the Mind The Game podcasts on YouTube.

JJ Redick is more known for his sharpshooting skills throughout his 15-year-long NBA career. Upon retiring, he smoothly transitioned into the role of a basketball analyst. He is able to seamlessly breakdown basketball plays, discuss strategies, and possess a profound understanding of the sport, that might translate well into his future as a coach. But there’s a lot of people who seem to think he might not be as great a coach for an “experienced” team like the Lakers. On that list are Chris Broussard and Rob Parker from the Odd Couple podcast show.

On the show, Broussard speaks about how an already experienced team that has James and Anthony Davis might not be a great starting point for someone like Redick. He’s a contemporary to LeBron and AD [Anthony Davis]. They ain’t about to listen. …They ain’t about to give you that respect”. Notably, the NBA analyst’s take on Redick is right as he is just 39 years old, which is equal to James and 8 years older than Anthony Davis. However, Broussard mentioned that age was not the only thing that would keep Redick far from respect. He justifies the “respect” part by reminding listeners and his co-host about the fact that Redick has got “zero Championship” titles as a player.

The co-hosts then go ahead to talk about Steve Kerr and Phil Jackson being in a similar spot like Redick when they took over coaching the Warriors and the Knicks. The only difference between Redick and the two of them – Kerr and Jackson did play a role (even though small) on championship-winning teams back in their days. Plus, Broussard follows it with, “They [Phil and Steve] coached the next generation. They didn’t coach a bunch of dudes who used to take them to the whole dunk on them and talk trash to him.

Obviously, for such reasons, JJ Redick might not earn the Lakers’ respect. However, Broussard’s partner, Rob Parker, took a greater reference from the past that suited well to the choice of Redick guiding the purple and gold jerseys.

Rob Parker Draws a Historical NFL Reference to Bring JJ Redick Down!

In Rob Parker’s opinion, JJ Redick is a top choice for people because of his high profile. However, the NBA analyst drew out one of the most disastrous events in NFL history when a TV host destroyed Detroit Lions as a General Manager. The spark that Rob was talking about was Matt Millen, who used to be a Fox commentator for the NFL. Just like Redick is analyzing the game with LeBron James on their podcast show, Millen used to be a Fox commentator for the NFL in those days.

Everyone was quite impressed with Matt on television. His insights on the sports and the players were spectacular. Nevertheless, he had not played football himself in his life before. However, the Lions handed their keys to Millen in 2001 and his tenure as the GM till 2008 is termed as the worst eight-year record in the history of modern-day NFL. Therefore, Parker thought that it was important to take careful measures before selecting a coach.
