Minnesota Timberwolves‘ Anthony Edwards was phenomenal tonight in their resounding 127-108 victory over the Chicago Bulls.  He scored 49 points while also registering 9 rebounds and 3 steals, all in the course of 37 minutes. Moving on from the phenomenal win, the T-Wolves will take on the Houston Rockets in the second leg of their midweek back-to-back.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Houston Rockets Injury Report – will Anthony Edwards play tonight?

The T-Wolves have a 2-day break before their next game after they face the Houston Rockets. With no reports of him being rested for the Rockets game, Anthony Edwards will likely play against Houston. Moreover, Anthony Edwards isn’t a player who misses too many games through injury, with only having missed 6 regular season games in the last 2 seasons combined.

However, the same cannot be said for his teammate, Julius Randle who is unfortunately suffering a groin injury against the Utah Jazz. If that wasn’t enough, on Wednesday, we learned that he suffered an adductor strain that will keep him out for at least two weeks.

Another T-Wolves player who won’t be making an appearance against the Rockets is Donte DiVincenzo. We learned on January 24 that Donte had suffered a toe injury with a partial tear of the plantar ligament. Though he won’t require surgery, he was ruled out for 3 weeks. So, that’s another week on the sidelines for him before he’s reevaluated.

As for the T-Wolves opponents, the Houston Rockets, well, they’ll be missing a fair few players from their squad against Minnesota. Jabari Smith Jr. and Fred VanVleet are both OUT. Smith suffered a left metacarpal fracture, while Fred has a sprained right ankle. Smith requires surgery for the fracture, which will keep him out for a maximum of eight weeks. Whereas, VanVleet’s availability will be considered from week to week.

Steven Adams is also DOUBTFUL for the T-Wolves game with soreness in his left ankle. Additionally, Jack McVeigh and N’Faly Dante are OUT as they have G-League duties to fulfill per their two-way contracts.

Let’s see what lineups these teams will field against each other considering the injuries to their squad.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Houston Rockets – predicted lineups and depth chart

The Minnesota Timberwolves will once again rely on Anthony Edwards to carry their team to victory. Moreover, with such a convincing display by them against the Chicago Bulls, we don’t see Chris Finch fielding a different starting lineup barring any unexpected injuries. Here’s what we think the T-Wolves’ lineup will look like for the game against the Rockets:

POSITION STARTER 2nd UNIT 3rd UNIT
PG Mike Conley Rob Dillingham Anthony Edwards
SG Anthony Edwards Nickell Alexander-Walker Jaylen Clark
SF Jaden McDaniels Jaylen Clark Nickell Alexander-Walker
PF Naz Reid Joe Ingles Leonard Miller
C Rudy Gobert Naz Reid Luka Garza

Even though they’re missing more players on paper, the Houston Rockets aren’t missing too many key players. That said, they will still miss their second-highest scorer this season, Julius Randle. So let’s see what they might look like against the T-Wolves:

POSITION STARTER 2nd UNIT 3rd UNIT
PG Aaron Holiday Reed Sheppard Jalen Green
SG Jalen Green Cam Whitmore Dillon Brooke
SF Amen Thompson Jae’Sean Tate Cam Whitmore
PF Dillon Brooks Jae’Sean Tate Cam Whitmore

So there we have it, the potential starting lineups for both sides. Given they’re faring similarly injury-wise, we have to give the edge in their upcoming game to the T-Wolves. Even though they have a worse league record this season, they’re 8-2 in their last 10 against the Rockets. Additionally, Ant’s red-hot form cannot be ignored ahead of their clash.
