The Golden State Warriors find themselves caught in a persistent struggle this season. Challenges continue to mount, with not only the players struggling on the floor but also their leader, Draymond Green, contributing to their woes. In the game against the Suns, Green yet again added to the Warriors’ misery. He faced an ejection following a Flagrant 2 foul.

As Nurkic was guarding Green, the latter swung at the big man, hitting him in the face. The Bosnian promptly collapsed, and the referees called a stoppage in play to take a closer look and ejected him. With the Warriors’ journey already marred by setbacks, Green’s latest stunt will further complicate their 2023 campaign.

Draymond Green headed to the locker room early with an output of 2-2-2, while shooting 1-3 from the field in 17 minutes. A dismal performance ended with the Suns winning before their fans at the Footprint Center. Now, per the NBA rules, things could get worse for the Warriors when they head to LA to take on the Clippers.

As per the NBA’s official rules, any player who throws a punch will be ejected immediately and suspended for a minimum of one game. It is considered a personal and a team foul.

What did Green have to say about the incident? “As you know, I’m not don’t to apologize for things that I meant to do, but I do apologize to Jusuf because I didn’t intend to hit him,” he said. This is his third ejection this season.

This adds to Green’s issues on the basketball court as he once also grabbed Ruby Gobert’s neck and put him in a headlock. The incident was deemed “unsportsmanlike” and “dangerous”.

Even before the start of the 2022-23 season, Green stirred controversy by wreaking havoc on his teammate, Jordan Poole, during a team scrimmage. A low-quality leaked footage showed Green punching Poole and knocking him to the floor due to a disagreement. However, his actions against Ruby Gobert shocked many.

Why did Draymond Green put Rudy Gobert in a headlock?

The game against the Suns marks Draymond Green’s 18th regular season game ejection; the most amongst all the active players in the NBA. During a recent game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Green faced an ejection within the first two minutes of the game. Green paced down to the court and held Rudy Gobert in a chokehold. Making matters worse, he then proceeded to drag the man at least 10 feet before letting go. The league gave Green a five-game suspension for the incident.

The whole situation resulted from Klay Thompson and Jake McDaniels’ fight. Gobert got involved and put his arm around Thompson. Soon, Green intervened to defend his teammate and put Gobert in a headlock.

As a result of such situations, Green might now face yet another suspension. If suspended, the Golden State Warriors might suffer in their next game against the Clippers.
