The harrowing hit-and-run accident involving 76ers’ shooting guard Kelly Oubre left everybody in shock. He was hit by a car on 11 November, while walking on the pedestal in the center of the city. Oubre sustained injuries on his right leg and through his hip, in addition to a broken rib. The car fled the scene, and he was immediately taken to the hospital. While the investigation is still ongoing, Kelly has bounced back following a scary incident. Oubre has shown resilience and his injuries didn’t turn out to be life-threatening or career-ending. It’s not just the injuries that he had to battle, but ongoing conspiracy theories that had been heating up on social media.
Videos flooded the internet that questioned whether he was hit by a car at all. Trashing the rumors, Oubre feels like a victim of hyper-surveillance in his first interview after the accident.

Surveillance footage did not show the hit-and-run case at the location that Oubre reported to the police. There is no photographic evidence of the crash site with the authorities yet. One thing is certain, he was walking back to his home that night. “I’m just really blessed that it wasn’t worse than it is and that I’m able to come back to work and smile and walk and talk and breathe. That’s what I have to say about the conspiracy theorists” Oubre said in an interview with Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

There is still more to the conspiracy theories. Kelly rode his bicycle back to his house, according to video that TMZ showed. The preliminary report with the police doesn’t make any mention of a bike. Although Oubre did not talk about the specifics of the case, since the investigation is still ongoing. About the video cameras and stuff, Oubre said, “I just wish that my life wasn’t The Truman Show, where everybody can kind of watch it and have their own opinion about my life.”
